| Question from Lee |
| Are Engineers hard to find job in New Zealand? | |
|
I am a degree qualified C& S engineer with 4-5 years working experience field. I am getting those negative feedback from all applications I done for New Zealand. I found it harsh and racist when they replied asking your residency and visa status. After I answered that I don't have any or will be applying one soon, everyone went silent forever!! What's wrong if we apply any visa after receiving job offers? Is Engineers Job hard to find in NZ? What if i really go on WHS and look for job there? Any clue that I will go jobless? I heard they are launching this new SILVER FERN policies and Silver Fern Practical Experience policy to attract young skilled people into New Zealand, but it will only come into effect in April 2010. Will it be better to apply this visa to have a better approach with those employment companies? My intention to stay permanently in NZ once i have the right job. 2010-03-10 18:25:33 Accepting Answers Category: Other - New Zealand |

| Dan | 2010-03-13 03:59:25 there are plenty of engineering opportunities available in new zealand, especially with increased infrastructure. you should be able to find a job pretty easily. |
| Jimmy | 2010-03-11 13:49:06 Ok well for starter there is not a shortage of C&S Engineers in NZ so why a company would bring staff in from overseas would be a complete waste of time and money, unless you had something to offer that we didn't already have or could get in NZ and by saying "could get" I mean that they already live in NZ so the company doesn't have to worry about sponsorship, accommodation, transport, visa residence etc etc etc.You say that they are harsh and racist, I get at least 3 emails every week from people in different parts of the world looking for work I would hate to think what bigger company's get a week and if you read some of the absolute rubbish that I receive you would be amazed, I know my grammar and comprehension are crap but some of the emails I can't even read or even begin to understand so saying that they are harsh in there replies well I can understand that. Why would you hire somebody you can't understand, plus I don't advertise for staff as I don't need staff. As for race it has nothing to do with it because if you are the right person (skills, qualifications, experience) for the job you will get the job regardless of your race. But bare in mind that employers have to look at the bigger picture eg what you will bring to the company, how will you fit into the company, what problems/issues will you bring with you, whats your $$$ worth is to the company and they way you have asked this question just sounds negative and if you came across that negative in your job application to me and on those grounds you would go on my NO list regardless. Employers have know interest in negative employees they do more harm then good.WHS and Silver Fern can't help.Good luck |
| BullyH | 2010-03-10 20:21:33 I see that this question came from the United States, but your use of english tells my that english isn't your first language. New Zealand is very particular about who they let in to stay but one thing they aren't is racist. Go to your nearest N.Z. consulate or embassy and get the true facts about immigration. Go to Wikipedia and enter Immigration New Zealand. You can follow the links from there. Best of luck. |
